Course description

Tajweed is the science of correct pronunciation and articulation of the Quranic text. It involves understanding and applying specific rules to ensure that every letter is recited from its proper point of articulation (Makharij) and with its assigned characteristics (Sifaat). The purpose of Tajweed is to protect the Quran from distortion, maintain its eloquence, and ensure clarity in its meanings.

Key elements of Tajweed include:

  1. Makharij (Points of Articulation): Learning where each letter originates from in the mouth, throat, or lips.
  2. Sifaat (Characteristics of Letters): Understanding the attributes like heaviness, lightness, softness, or vibration.
  3. Rules of Noon and Meem: Applying nasalization (Ghunna) and proper merging (Idghaam).
  4. Elongation (Madd): Understanding when to extend sounds and for how long.
  5. Stopping and Pausing (Waqf): Properly stopping at the end of verses or words without altering meaning.

Mastering Tajweed is crucial for preserving the Quran's divine nature and ensuring that its recitation remains as Allah revealed it. This foundation is essential for every Muslim and can be gradually improved through practice and guidance from qualified teachers.
